Background

Wabaseemoong Independent Nations (WIN) is comprised of three First Nation communities; White Dog, Swan Lake and One Man Lake First Nations in Northwestern Ontario just north of Kenora.

Q-Power has worked alongside the various branches of WIN to effectively communicate their initiatives in the areas of health care, education, training, employment, community and social engagement, government administration, economic investment and development.

Advertising and Design Empowering Heritage: Establishing a First Nation's Brand

The journey began with immersion into the community's history, traditions, and values. We spent time listening to elders' stories, engaging with citizens, and participating in cultural events. This holistic understanding was pivotal in ensuring the brand would be a true reflection of the community's identity.

With a profound appreciation of the community’s essence, we developed an identity that incoporated imagery reflecting the local environment and the symbols and elements representing the First Nations's themsleves.

Celebrating a Local Hero

Wabaseemoong was planning an event to rename their new community centre and wanted to honour a local war hero as part of that process. They asked Q-Power to design a memorial poster and banner for Private Thomas Land Senior and design interior graphics for the centre to tie it all together.

Remembering the History to Empower the Future

The Elders of Wabaseemoong wanted to recognize the different customary protocols that are unique to their culture and area. It was important that the teachings were a guide to aid the communities in a respectful and insightful manner. This was a tool to help the knowledge keepers, holders and carriers to pass along the history of their region to future generations.

“It is important to pass on our knowledge because our children and youth are the leaders of tomorrow, they will continue our way of life.”

Building a Digital Presence

Understanding the importance of a strong online presence, we designed a user-friendly website that serves as a digital gathering place. The website showcases the community's achievements, promotes cultural events, and offers a way for the First Nations' Chief and Council to communicate with the people. The digital presence has expanded the community’s reach, creating new avenues for cultural exchange.

Results and Impact

The rebranding has revitalized the community's image, fostering a renewed sense of pride and unity. By working closely with the three First Nation's of Wabaseemoong, we created a brand that is a true reflection of their identity, and are honored to have played a role in this meaningful transformation, creating a brand that is not just seen but deeply felt.
